NATIONAL AAUW NEWS **
Deeper in Debt: Women and Student
Loans
Over
the course of the past few decades student loans have become an increasingly
common means of paying for a college education. Most students who complete a
college program now take on student loans, and the amount of student debt that
students assume has increased as has the cost of attending college. At this
time about 44 million borrowers in the United States hold about $1.3 trillion
in outstanding student loans. Women are
now the majority of borrowers of these loans, as well as the majority of
college students. Read more at http://www.aauw.org/2017/09/01/student-debt-through-the-gender-lens/

GRAND RAPIDS BRANCH MEETING
Aug. 21, 2017 United Methodist Church
Thank you to Jan Mary Hill for letting us
enjoy her beautiful home for our meeting. We need to keep her in our thoughts
as she is still in pain and suffering. Get better soon, Jan.
New members and guests were introduced after
we enjoyed yummy food. Mention was made about the Northern MN AAUW fall
gathering in Hibbing on September 9th. Several of our members plan to attend.
Arlene would like all the information by September 5 for the membership
directory.
More members are needed on the membership committee. The next regular meeting is September 18 at the United Methodist Church. The next board meeting will be September 25 at the United Methodist Church at 3:45 PM. A new member, Ashifa, spoke about being a business woman in Minnesota.
