Membership Corner
It's “bring a guest” month in April, and the dinner for first-time, qualified guests will be $5.00. Is there someone you met that just moved into the area? She may be looking for a group where she could become involved. Do you know someone from your volunteering that may be interested in our organization? We’re looking forward to meeting your guests!
“The
strength of a woman is not measured by the impact that all her hardships in
life have had on her; but the strength of a woman is measured by the extent of
her refusal to allow those hardships to dictate her and who she becomes.”

May 21 Dinner at Ruttger’s is $25
Our May AAUW meeting was planned for the
Sawmill Inn, as this program is traditionally a “night out”. As the Sawmill has closed, we opted for
Ruttger’s on Sugar Lake as it had been a request from members for last spring’s
dinner. The buffet sounds very delicious! The menu as set by Ruttger’s
includes: Shore Lunch Walleye, Bacon
Brandy Creamed Chicken, Couscous with Sun-dried Tomatoes & Spinach, Garlic
Mashed Potatoes, Wild Rice, Fresh Vegetable and Chef’s Choice Dessert.
The cost at Ruttger’s is up from the cost
quoted by the Sawmill, so the Board decided in January that the cost for each
member who plans to attend the May meal at Ruttger’s is $25.00. The Chapter
will pick up the difference of almost $8.00 for each RSVP received by Deanna.
PLEASE NOTE: RSVP’s are extremely important for the May meeting. Each
month the RSVP’s do not match the number of attendees. When we go out to eat we
absolutely have to pay for every meal we request/RSVP to the restaurant. If you
RSVP and do not attend, you should plan on paying for the dinner, regardless.
Please be mindful about your RSVP for this special night out!
The speaker will be Dr. Lisa Johnson, a local dentist in Grand Rapids, talking about professional humor.

to this!

PUBLIC POLICY
The next
meeting is April 12, KAXE Meeting room, 4:00
to 5:30 PM.
Topic for
discussion is Challenges for Women These
Days: Child Care, #Metoo. Children with special needs, equal pay issues,
aging parents, aging bodies, etc. Come with your list and articles from newspaper,
magazines, books or social media. Our 5
o’clock guest speaker will be Kathleen Field-Tabaka, a family therapist working
with very young children. Public policies for educating the large number of
children who have special needs, e.g. fetal alcohol, autism, physical
limitations, mental health illness, trauma, and addictions, are becoming more
necessary for attending to these childhood problems.
Our AAUW mission is all about women and girls (boys too as we are a coeducational membership organization!). For questions or information, contact Marilyn Rossman, 218-326-6775, or mbro@paulbunyan.net
