Christmas Party

Our theme this year for the silent auction is: ”Eat Your Words’

Be creative! You could bring a book and a dessert, a salad cookbook, or a gift card to Super One or Unwined.

 

Tickets will be sold at the door for the silent auction:

25 tickets for $20.00

12 tickets for $10.00

6 tickets for $5.00

 

We will also hold a "second chance" drawing for those that did not win.

Note: You can bring a special item for this and give to Janis Johnson for the drawing and she will set it aside.

If the check reaches her by the RSVP deadline of Dec. 5, there is no need to do a separate RSVP.

 

President’s Message

The holiday season is now in full swing!  Our Christmas get together will be here before you know.  Remember to put together your basket for the silent auction.  The theme again is "Eat Your Words".  We will also have the beautiful mink coat for auction, donated by Brenda Ruud.  Thank you, Brenda.

Travel Treasures

Once again, our members were very generous. At our November meeting Travel Treasures brought in $50 towards our scholarship fund! Thank you all.

 

No Travel Treasures in December as it is our annual fundraiser. All money aised will go towards our Scholarship Fund. It will be a very fun evening!

*LITERATURE

The AAUW Monday Morning Lit Group will meet on December 5th at 9:30 A.M. in 

the private dining room at Majestic Pines. Nancy Salmi will lead a discussion of WATERFALL by Mary Casanova and provide a treat for our morning coffee. If you would like, please bring a monetary donation to the Second Harvest North Central Food Bank. For more information, contact Nancy Salmi at 326-3147 or nsalmi@earthlink.net. 

 

*PUBLIC POLICY 

Deanna Ensley is trying to organize a new Public Policy group. If you have an interest in a more action-based group, including discussion of what and how we will move forward, please think about letting her know of your interest and wait for more specifics. *WALKING & TALKING

We walk each Tuesday afternoon at 1 PM.  We walk for about one hour, always outside.  The location in the Grand Rapids area changes from week to week and members receive an email with the walk location. If the weather looks really awful, you will get a cancellation notice.  Members walk when they want or are able; no need to RSVP.  We welcome new walkers.  If you are interested in joining, send your email and cell phone number to k.karls@yahoo.com.

 

*Sunshine & Caring

AAUW Grand Rapids, MN Branch General Meeting Minutes 
November 14, 2022

The Grand Rapids branch met at the United Methodist Church November 14, 2022, for a social hour, dinner and program. Thirty-seven meals were served to guests and members prior to the meeting and program.

Janis Johnson opened the meeting. Guests were introduced and welcomed, and Travel Treasures earned $50. The Christmas Fundraiser will be held on December 12 at the Forest Lake Steakhouse.  A happy hour will precede the dinner and fund raiser.  

 

Jan Bilden introduced the evening’s speaker.  Anne Campbell, Grand Rapids High School 
Activities Director, spoke on the “Fiftieth Anniversary of Title IX”.  Included in the presentation were comments from both coaches and student athletes. The presentation was very well received.
